In Eriks‘ account of major events, Luis almost didn’t have to think to know that it was definitely the underground forces trying to cause trouble at the celebration. It was almost a tradition every year, just like what the Snake Cult did to the Barov family celebration of Wilfredas, nothing could be more humiliating to the nobles than disrupting their festivities.
For instance, at the previous year’s celebration, the Snake Cult and another underground assassin force from Arwen joined forces. On the night before the celebration, they ruthlessly blew up the freshly built stage, forcing the Flandern family to change the venue the next day.
As a result of this, both organizations gained quite a reputation at the time. Although they faced fierce attacks during that period, their influence only increased after the turmoil subsided. This was because their prominent reputation attracted numerous professionals hostile to the Flandern family, causing their power to expand rapidly.
It could be said that each year’s celebration was a game of wits among major powers. Before the celebration, the Flandern family would always spend a large amount of money hiring professionals from various guilds, excluding the Demon Hunter Guild and the Holy See, as these two guilds showed no interest in human disputes.
Moreover, if there were monsters or individuals similar to the Demon Alliance appearing, the Demon Hunter Guild wouldn’t need the Flandern family’s summons. They would proactively dispatch demon hunters to help, as all demon pact holders were basically on the guild’s hit list, and the Holy See wouldn’t stand idly by either.
As the celebration approached, unlike the relaxed and joyful atmosphere among the common people, the Flandern family’s subordinate professional team was almost entering a state of war, and the number of guards patrolling the celebration area continued to increase.
At the urging of the Flandern family, the judiciary mobilized extensively, cracking down harshly on previously overlooked criminal activities. Arwen Prison saw new inmates almost daily during that time. These individuals may not have committed unforgivable crimes, but who made them run afoul of the law?
At this critical moment when the celebration was about to begin, the judiciary had zero tolerance for crime. Once detected, offenders would at least be kept incarcerated until the celebration was over.
During this period, Luis had no intention of taking on any more missions. Instead, he stayed at home to hone his skills. Every year, various underground forces conducting attacks during the celebration seemed endless. Rather than thinking about tasks to kill those monsters of unknown strength, Luis wanted to challenge higher-ranking professionals like demon pact holders.
Their souls were no worse than those monsters, and due to sacrifices or pacts, it was even possible to collect demon or other high-level monster souls from them. Luis hoped these individuals could elevate him to the level of a Demon Hunter.
It is now November 6th, with two days left until the celebration. Over the past couple of days, Luis received several letters from Erik, containing mostly information about recent activities of the Snake Cult, such as their large-scale purchase of gunpowder from the black market. Their lower-ranking church members were involved in transporting the gunpowder.
According to the letters, the amount of gunpowder had nearly reached the level where it could blow up the entire judiciary, far surpassing the previous year’s activities. There were some other notable pieces of information, such as the fact that the Snake Cult seemed to be cooperating with other forces this year.
Through Erik’s careful investigations, it was discovered that members of other forces appeared in the warehouses where the church bought the gunpowder. Although they didn’t inquire directly, they managed to gather quite a bit of information by subtly questioning the Snake Cultists responsible for those locations.
It turned out that these individuals came from various underground forces in Arwen, some big and some small, but without exception, they all harbored significant animosity towards the Flandern family.

„Willst du die Gilde nicht informieren?
Sollte man mit diesen Informationen nicht einige Punkte sammeln können“, sagte Sarah, die ebenfalls mit einer Tasse Milchtee neben Luis saß, zog die Decke von seinen Beinen herüber, seufzte leicht und fuhr fort:
„Nein, es ist nicht notwendig. Um ehrlich zu sein, unser Monsterjäger-Gilde-Netzwerk ist definitiv breiter angelegt als meins hier und die Informationen, die ich bekommen kann, sind auch für sie nicht unbekannt. Wenn auf dem Schwarzmarkt eine große Menge an Schießpulver gekauft wird, ist dies sicherlich kein Phänomen, das die Aufmerksamkeit der mächtigen Fraktionen nicht erregt. Es ist nur eine Frage, wie man damit umgeht.“
Wisst die Flandern-Familie von dem Schießpulververkauf auf dem Schwarzmarkt?
Dies ist unbestreitbar. Bei einem so großen Anteil am Schießpulververkauf können sie als Anführer vor Ort nicht nichts davon wissen, nur können sie es nicht gewaltsam stoppen.
Da der Schwarzmarkt die Interessen der großen Fraktionen berührt, haben mehrere große Gilden ihre eigenen Interessen darin, und sogar die Flandern-Familie selbst hat einen Teil des Gewinns daraus. Es ist nicht so einfach, ein paar Trupps zu schicken, um es zu stoppen, denn schließlich befolgen alle heimlich die Regeln des Schwarzmarktes.
Außerdem haben diese Untergrundorganisationen ihre eigenen Lieferwege. Es wäre nahezu unmöglich, sie alle aufzudecken. Anstatt also Unruhe zu stiften, die diese Gruppen dazu bringen könnte, rücksichtslos anzugreifen, ist es besser, sie im Verborgenen zu beobachten. Selbst wenn das Schießpulver vollständig zu Sprengstoff verarbeitet wurde, müsste es einen Weg haben, um an den Zielort geliefert zu werden. In diesem Fall könnte es klüger sein, abzuwarten, um möglicherweise größere Fische zu fangen.
Warum hat Luis seine Informationen nicht gemeldet? Einerseits, weil die Gilde wahrscheinlich bereits Bescheid wusste und seine Informationen nicht besonders nützlich wären. Andererseits, um zu vermeiden, dass Ärger auf ihn zukommt. Wenn er plötzlich verdächtigt wird, Verbindungen zu diesen Untergrundorganisationen zu haben, wäre das echt problematisch. Wenn er erst einmal auf der schwarzen Liste der Gerichte steht, selbst wenn sie aufgrund seiner Identität nicht öffentlich nach ihm suchen können, wäre Überwachung in Zukunft unvermeidlich. Dann hätte er wirklich keine Möglichkeit, dagegen anzugehen. Letztendlich ist ein Monsterjäger kein Beruf, in dem man einfach willkürlich tötet.
Wenn Luis weiterhin in Arwen bleiben will, wird er zwangsläufig die überwachenden Blicke der Gerichte ertragen müssen – dieses Gefühl, dass jemand sogar auf die Toilette schaut, ist einfach unerträglich für Luis.
